As the debate between the Republicans played out last night, I wondered just how does one decide which of these candidates might do the best job as President? Is it Trump with his attitude of greatness and bold assertions that he will make America great again? How would he act in a meeting with foreign leaders? Can he really build a wall and make Mexico pay for it? Or is he just blowing smoke and making fools of many?
How about Ted Cruz? Will he do what he says and do away with Obamacare and Planned Parenthood? Will he be able to bring dignity and respect back to our white house? Each of the candidates say the same things over and over….things they know we want to hear. Many feel Cruz is the only true conservative in the race. He did win in Iowa where more people voted than usual, especially the Christians.
Then there is Rubio. I have heard him speak about his faith and how important it is to him and been impressed by the sincerity of his words. He’s young, determinded and wants the best for America. Then there’s the negative comments from others like Cruz and Bush about how Marco failed to show up when important issues were to be voted on. Obama has failed to show up for many things too, such as funerals. We don’t need another absentee President who allows the Congress to vote only so he can override their decisions with an executive order….or doesn’t even wait for them to vote at all.
Governor Kasich seems to have done everything from balancing a budget to solving world hunger to hear him tell it. His “been there, done that” attitude has not impressed me at all. The one thing I do like is the fact that he refuses to join in the non-sense the top three seem to thrive on.
Finally, we come to Dr. Ben Carson, who has to speak up in order to be allowed to speak at all. Most seem to have discounted him altogether since the Iowa caucas and the rumors of his pulling out of the race. In my opinion, Dr. Carson would be the perfect one to be our next President. He is soft-spoken and also refuses to join in the name-calling and degrading of his fellow candidates. When he does speak, he sticks to the issues and has some really good, common-sense solutions in mind. He realizes that he is new to politics and willing to listen to people he trusts to get information he will need as President.
We have to look at all these candidates and decide who to vote for. Hopefully, all of us will spend much time in prayer before casting our ballots and God will choose the best leader for us. Every time I pray about it, God tells me to follow my heart….and my heart is with Ben Carson. He has been the most out-spoken about his faith and knows who our true leader is….Jesus Christ. He said he will decide after Super Tuesday, next week, whether or not to continue his campaign.
When we look at the election as Republicans, we feel we have to choose the one we feel can win the general election against Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. Many feel that Carson cannot do this. If we look at it as Christians, we must vote for the one God would have us choose if we truely want to turn our country back to Him. If God can’t beat Hillary or Bernie, then no one can. Perhaps if we all unite and vote for Dr. Carson we will have a chance to rescue us all from the disaster which could be Donald Trump.
In the end, whoever becomes President, will not be able to turn our country around. It will take a change of heart among the people. The church must work overtime to bring others to Christ. When more of us put Him at the center of our lives and He is once more exalted above all others, we will see our country begin to change for the better. Nothing is greater than the power in the name of Jesus!
