More Terror in Israel

Monday morning saw two separate terrorist attacks against Israelis by Palestinian terrorists including a shooting attack in Kiryat Arba, south of Jerusalem. That attack was ended when soldiers shot and killed both attackers after they had managed to wound one soldier. A half hour later, a Palestinian driver rammed his vehicle into a bus near Bnei Naim, lightly wounding two nearby soldiers, and was shot dead when he attempted to exit his vehicle and continue his attack.

French and US officials said over the weekend that the European Union is considering imposing new sanctions on Iran over its recent tests of ballistic missiles, including two which had the words “Israel must be wiped out” stenciled on them. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged such action during Sunday’s cabinet meeting. However, Russia and China are likely to try to prevent any punishment of Iran at the UN, despite Russian anger at Iran over its refusal to go along with a plan to freeze oil output to buttress global prices.

On Friday, the Arab League took the step of declaring the Lebanese Shi’ite terror militia to be a terrorist organization, prompting a sharp rebuke from Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, as well as Iran, which is Hezbollah’s main sponsor. However, Saudi Arabia, which dominates the League, doubled down on Sunday, declaring that it would punish those who live in Saudi Arabia who express any kind of support for Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared during Sunday’s cabinet meeting that “Israel won’t tolerate any rocket fire from Gaza into Israel.” The statement came after a weekend which saw four rockets fired into Israel from Gaza, with Israeli retaliatory strikes on four facilities run by the Islamist terror militia Hamas.

Even as thousands of school teachers who work for the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank agreed to suspend their strike over the weekend, one of their colleagues, Hanan Al Hroub, who teaches at the Samiha Khalil High School in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh, was presented an award and a $1 million cash prize for her innovative teaching methods.
