UK-based newspaper al-Hayat reported on Thursday that an agreement has been reached between US and Russian negotiators that Syrian President Bashar Assad will be removed from power and allowed to seek refuge for himself and his family in a third country, probably Russia. If confirmed, the report would mark a major turning point in efforts to end one of the multi-directional and overlapping conflicts currently raging in Syria, but Russia was officially denying the report Thursday afternoon.
