New York Results and The Courts vs. Common Sense Bathrooms

New York Results: The Democrats

Stung by a series of consecutive losses, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did what she HAD to do last night: She scored a decisive victory over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Sanders bet big that an upset in New York would upend the Democrat race. He reportedly outspent Clinton 2-to-1 on ads.

But in spite of the big money, big rallies and whatever momentum Sanders had, Hillary hit it out of the park last night, winning 58%-to-42%. She added at least 173 delegates, bringing her total delegate count to 1,930 or 81% of the total needed to secure the Democrat presidential nomination.

Nevertheless, Sanders is vowing to fight on.

New York Results: The Republicans

Favorite son Donald Trump also scored a huge victory last night, taking 61% of the vote, followed by John Kasich (25%) and Ted Cruz (15%). Trump secured 89 of New York’s 95 delegates, and now has 835 delegates or 68% of the total needed to win the GOP nomination.

Trump is expected to do well in next week’s round of voting in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. It should be noted, however, that most of the delegates in Pennsylvania are unbound, and the Cruz team thinks it can win at least half of delegates.

It is worth repeating that the primary elections and the delegate selection process are different. They have always been different. This is not some bizarre scheme that the RNC concocted this year to derail Donald Trump. But it does create an optics problem for the party.

By the way, Trump got 61% of the vote and at least 94% of the delegates. Is that cheating? Is that fair?

Ted Cruz deserves credit for his grassroots organization. Donald Trump deserves credit for making lemonade out of lemons. He has managed to spin his lack of a grassroots organization into an attack on the GOP establishment, claiming it is attempting to cheat him out of the nomination.

The Courts v. Common Sense

Not that long ago, many well-meaning people would often ask me why they should care if two men wanted to get “married.” It wouldn’t affect their marriage or how they lived their lives . . . or so they thought.

Now that the courts have redefined marriage, we’re finding out now just how much this radical social experiment is going to affect us all.

Yesterday the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, issued a disturbing decision that could force young girls to share public school bathrooms with boys.

To be clear, the federal court did not decide the issue. But their 2-to-1 opinion does allow a lawsuit against a Virginia school district to proceed, suggesting that gender specific bathrooms represent some form of unconstitutional sex discrimination.

The ACLU and other left-wing groups are applauding the decision as “a complete vindication of the Education Department’s interpretation of Title IX.” But the Obama Education Department’s interpretation is utter nonsense!

Title IX was passed by Congress in 1972 to eliminate blatant sex discrimination between men and women in educational opportunities. No one in 1972 had transgenderism in mind.

But that is how Obama’s radical bureaucrats are interpreting — rewriting — the law today. And left-wing judicial activists on the courts are going along with it.

Fortunately, Judge Paul Niemeyer’s dissenting opinion made the case for common sense. He wrote:

This holding completely tramples on all universally accepted protections of privacy and safety that are based on the anatomical differences between the sexes. . . This unprecedented holding overrules custom, culture, and the very demands inherent in human nature for privacy and safety, which the separation of such facilities is designed to protect. More particularly, it also misconstrues the clear language of Title IX and its regulations. And finally, it reaches an unworkable and illogical result.”
Where is the left’s concern for the privacy rights of young girls?

Are you prepared to accept boys using your daughter’s bathrooms and locker rooms at your local public school? Are you prepared to share a public bathroom with someone of the opposite sex?

Are you willing to accept this assault on common sense?

That is how this radical cultural revolution is going to affect us all, to say nothing of the ongoing consequences for religious liberty.
