Genesis 3:8-11a Toward evening they heard the LORD God walking about in the garden, so they hid themselves among the trees. The LORD God called to Adam, “Where are you?” He replied, “I heard You, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” “Who told you that you were naked?” The LORD God asked. (NLT)
I love that! The Father says, “Who told you that?”
Every new year, people get on these fitness kicks. All our focus turns to diet and exercise and getting in shape. Frankly, I’m sick of it. I even told the Lord, “Father, I am sick and tired of this weight struggle and trying to look like what I think I am supposed to look like, and being a slave to the gym or the treadmill and keeping track of everything I eat. Where does this come from in me?”
It became clear to me when He said, “You’ve believed a lie my Dove.”
I never struggled with weight at all until twenty years ago, someone who said they loved me convinced me that I was fat and ugly. I was in the best shape of my life. It was a lie and I have carried it in my heart for twenty years.
Talk about covert diversionary tactics. I can’t tell you how much time I have wasted on trying to get in shape. It pulled a huge chunk of my focus away from Him, and what He is saying. Also, no matter what I did or didn’t do or ate or didn’t eat, I stayed the same. I knew this was going to be a lesson in trusting my Father and what He said.
Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. (NKJV)
As I began to allow Him to speak to me about me, and how He made me to be, my heart got lighter and I began to say what He was saying to me. I gave it to Him when I said, “Father, You made me. What am I supposed to look like? I give up and I’m going to let You shape me and I believe YOU, Father. You never lie.” I am resting in Him and trusting Him and as I do, He is forming me into the Dawn He made.
What lies are you believing? I want to encourage you to get with the Lord and ask Him, and then let Him minister to you and tell you what He has to say about the issue. You hear His voice. Believe what He says is true.
Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That you may be justified in your words, And may overcome when you are judged.” (NKJV)
Father, I lift these beloved ones up to You. Help them to hear Your voice very clearly and help them to believe You and what You say. Help them to know in their hearts that what You say is true and to let no lies remain in their hearts. Thank You, Father. Amen.
