My Dad Wally Moede entered World War II as a 17 year old Marine from Windom, Minnesota. He was a Sgt. He was on a ship headed to invade Japan. Then President Harry Truman gave the order to drop the two bombs, one on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki. Harry Truman is one of my heroes. Can you imagine serving as VP and not knowing the bomb had been built, as FDR did not tell him! Then FDR dies suddenly and it all falls into Truman’s lap. Truman had fought in WW I, he knew war was hell. He had to drop the bombs to save thousands and thousands of lives. The alternative of not doing so would have resulted in even more deaths. Many have forgotten or do not know the whole story of WW II and the dropping of the atomic bombs.
