Rabbinic World Rocked by Scandals

Israel’s religiously observant Jewish community was rocked by scandals on Monday, including the nearly unprecedented publishing of a letter by several prominent Rabbis and organizations in the US and Jerusalem warning women to avoid contact with Rabbi Meir Pogrow, a heretofore highly respected Torah scholar who has been accused of sexually abusing several women, many of whom were students of his. Elsewhere, Rabbi Yosef Hadane, chief rabbi of the Ethiopian- Israeli community, was removed from his position by the Religious Services Ministry under unclear circumstances, with supporters claiming he is being pushed out for opposing discrimination against members of his community.
