Netanyahu Announces Large Allocation for Settlements

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that the government will allocate NIS 74 million to enhance infrastructure projects for Israeli communities in the West Bank. “This entails the work of many ministries on behalf of the residents there and will – inter alia – strengthen security, assist small businesses and encourage tourism,” he said. The announcement was met with angry denunciations from several world governments as well as others.

Israel Takes Steps to Integrate Arab Population

Israel took another step aimed at integrating and serving its Arab community on Sunday, launching an educational game on the Knesset website to teach Arab schoolchildren about their government. “I’m happy that the game is now in Arabic, for the benefit of youth in the Arab public that we did not reach before,” said Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.

Israeli Gymnasts in Good Shape for the Olympics

Israel’s rhythmic gymnastics national team is on track for a successful Olympics in Rio later this summer after winning gold and silver medals at the European Championships in Holon on Sunday. The medals came in the club and hoops and ribbons team finals and compliment the medals won by team members in individual events. It was the first time the event was held in Israel and attracted teams from 37 countries.

Morsi Sentenced to Life in Prison

Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi was sentenced to life in prison by an Egyptian court Saturday after being convicted on a charge of espionage. Six others convicted in the case were sentenced to death. Morsi has already been sentenced to death in another case and faces additional legal proceedings for various other charges.

Israel blesses the World

Israel has dispatched firefighting aircraft and other equipment to Cyprus to assist that country in battling a massive wildfire near the city of Paphos. Meanwhile, Israeli company Bio-bee announced on Sunday that it is sending 500 million insects to Russia which will be used to assist that country’s beleaguered agriculture sector naturally without chemical fertilizers.

Iran Orders 100 Boeing Aircraft

US aerospace giant Boeing announced over the weekend that it has reached an agreement to sell 100 commercial passenger jets to Iran in one of the first large-scale business deals following last year’s nuclear agreement. The deal still requires US Government approval and could face many legal and financial challenges.
