Superpower Tensions Rising in Mediterranean

Tensions are rising between the US and Russia over naval maneuvers both countries are carrying out in the Eastern Mediterranean. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Battle Group moved into the area and began launching strikes on the Islamic State (IS) terror militia in Syria and Iraq on Tuesday, the same day as the Kremlin accused the US of sending a destroyer to engage in “unsafe” maneuvers near one of its own ships cruising near the Lebanese coast.
