Dallas Update
Little is known about the three suspects in custody, and Dallas officials said this afternoon that they are still looking for more people involved. But we are learning more about the dead shooter, Micah X. Johnson.
- He served in the Army and was deployed to Afghanistan. Sadly, one of the police officers he murdered had served in Iraq.
- Johnson’s Facebook profile picture featured him wearing African garb with a clenched fist. Additional photos included the black power flag and the black power fist.
- He liked sites related to Elijah Mohammed, the deceased founder of the Nation of Isalm.
- He liked several militant black separatist groups, including the New Black Panther Party and the African American Defense League (AADL). After Johnson’s murderous rampage, the AADL posted, “ATTACK EVERYTHING IN BLUE EXCEPT THE MAIL MAN, UNLESS HE IS CARRYING MORE THAN MAIL.”Pelosi vs. The Police
Speaking on the House floor this morning, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi condemned the shootings in Dallas, Texas. She said “the perpetrators of this vile act had an agenda of evil.”
But then Pelosi segued into remarks about the “root causes” of the Dallas shootings, connecting it to the deaths of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minneapolis. That is unacceptable.
If you suggest that two police officers in Louisiana and Minnesota discharging their firearms in cases that will be, but have not yet been, adjudicated is the cause of the atrocity in Dallas against police, you are suggesting that what happened in Dallas is understandable or rational.
That is like saying a policeman who may have made a terrible mistake is the moral equivalent of those who set out to kill policemen. It says a cop can be killed because another policeman made a mistake.
For any politician to suggest, in any way, a cause and effect between the events in Baton Rouge, Minneapolis and Dallas only adds to the growing hatred of police, which is fed by a constant barrage of police demonization.
Powerful Essay!
I read an incredibly powerful essay on the death of Elie Wiesel. You can read it here. I highly recommend it.
P.S. In full disclosure, the author is our youngest daughter, Sarah Anderson!
