Israel opened the Quneitra border crossing between the Golan Heights and Syrian territory on Wednesday for the delivery of humanitarian aid. Although there are elements of the Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist groups in the area, the more moderate Free Syrian Army maintains a “safe zone” housing as many as 200,000 internally displaced refugees and aid groups believe the IDF is quietly cooperating with the FSA to keep the Quneitra area calm.

A crude video of protesters outside the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia burning an Israeli flag and chanting, among other things, “long live the Intifada” was widely reported on in Israel Wednesday. The reports prompted Sarah Bard, candidate Hillary Clinton’s Jewish outreach director, to issue a statement that “Hillary Clinton has always stood against efforts to marginalize Israel and incitement, and she strongly condemns this kind of hatred. Burning the Israeli flag is a reckless act that undermines peace and our values.”

Knesset Subcommittee on Combating Human Trafficking and Prostitution chairwoman Aliza Lavie presented a report compiled by the US State Department Wednesday which showed, among other things, that Israel is a world-leader in combatting the scourge of human trafficking. Israel has already hosted delegations of officials from other countries who wanted to learn methods and practices for dealing with the issue.

Israeli police arrested two workers for the Jordanian Wakf Muslim religious trust Wednesday after their apparently unprovoked attack on a Jewish tourist visiting the Temple Mount. The tourist suffered minor injuries but he and his tour continued after the suspects were taken into custody.

Summer camps being run by the Islamist terror militia Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, have begun to attract international attention. The camps, in which Gazan children as young as 10 are taught to handle weapons and bombarded with messages of murderous hatred for Israel and Jews, are designed to train the children for “the battle of liberation of Palestine”, a member of Hamas toldAFP.

The low-level Islamist insurgency taking place in a number of west European countries represents a profound failure of Western European political culture and of the continent’s elites. The problem with these elites is not that they are evil or decadent. It is that their worldview is inadequate to grasp the nature of the time in which they are living.
