Time to Rise and Shine

As I ponder the conditions of our world today, a couple of old country songs come to mind: Where Have all Our Heroes Gone and Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes.
Where are the Daniel Boones and Davy Crocketts….the Audie Murphy and John Wayne types who stand for rights and justice and fight to keep us free? I’m not talking military only, as all our men and women who serve are heroes in some way. I mean the ones who will rise above and lead us out…someone who’ll not back down and do what’s right just because it IS right according to God’s laws.
Believe it or not, God and our country go hand in hand. Without God and His laws to lead us we would have gone the way of Sodom and Gomorrah already….and still might if someone doesn’t step up soon.
In our quest to choose a new President, many Republicans are finding it difficult to endorse the people’s choice, which is Donald Trump. Some find him too hot-headed and non-political to even consider as a suitable candidate. Perhaps he wants to impose changes that some of these career politicians fear because it would mean a big change for them personally. I fail to believe that any of their arguments have anything to do with their desire for a better life for Americans in general.
The Bible tells us in Acts 4 about another time when the desires of the people went against the wishes of those in charge. It was shortly after Jesus ascended into heaven when the Holy Spirit was revealed and Christianity was growing profusely that a crippled man, known by all in the community, was healed. Many other signs and miracles had been witnessed also and the leaders became fearful of this power spreading among the people. If this continued, they could lose their jobs or perhaps even be stoned to death. The disciples were arrested and held till the next day.
The rulers, elders, scribes and the high priest and his men gathered at Jerusalem to determine what exactly to do about this growing trend. They brought in the disciples and demanded to know by what name all these things were being done. Peter boldly spoke up and told them: “By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand before you whole.”
After some discussion the leaders decided to threaten them and demanded that no more could they speak the name of Jesus among the people. Of course the disciples didn’t listen and Peter and John told them, “Whether it be right in the sight of God to listen to you more than Him, you decide, for we can only speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
Our government today has made it clear that most of them feel Christians should keep their beliefs and religion to themselves. They have denied history and some proclaim that America was never a Christian nation. We know better and must never give in to their demands to reject our faith and follow them.
Let us pray with one accord, as the people did in Acts 4: 24….”Lord, thou art God which has made heaven and earth and the sea and all that in them is. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness we may speak thy word. 30 By stretching forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child, Jesus.”
As it stands right now, we have two choices for President, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. We all know, with Hillary we can expect more of the same thing we’ve had for the next 4 years. Donald Trump might seem like an unlikely choice, but even Moses seemed the same when God chose him to lead the people out of Egypt. Moses had killed a man in broad daylight hoping no one saw, but they did. Forty years later God chose him and though Moses himself knew he was not equipped to lead, God empowered him to do so. It took another 40 years to lead the people out simply because they refused to believe and follow God. America didn’t get the way it is today over night….or even in 40 years. It will take many more years and many faithful leaders to get us back on the right path.
As for Donald Trump, look how quickly he rose to the top in the debates and then the primaries to become the people’s choice. If the Republicans want to win this election, it is time they get behind the people for once and support their decision. Maybe Donald Trump is not as far along in his Christian walk as some of us would prefer, but I believe he sincerely does have a great desire to see our country improve and turn back to God.
Maybe it is time for we the people (God’s people) to rise up and shine His light in this world of darkness. We have the perfect hero….and He is alive and working in the hearts of those who believe. Let’s continue to pray for our leaders and God’s direction as we boldly profess our faith and vote for a better future for our kids and grand kids.
