Faith That Moves Mountains

Faith that moves mountains, we’ve all heard about it, but have you experienced it first-hand in your own life? Jesus said that with faith the size of a mustard seed, we can move a mountain into the sea (Mark 11:23). Why are we not seeing more mountains moving? Because our faith is smaller than a mustard seed….the smallest of all grains that spreads like grass and is hard to kill.
If we have accepted Jesus as our Savior and know He lives within our hearts then we have experienced faith the size of a mustard seed….and saw it move a mountain of sin as far away from us as the east is from the west. So what happened to that faith, that gift from God? Are we sharing it so others can see their mountains be moved too, or have we taken our eyes off the Savior as Peter did when he tried walking on water? Have we let doubts and fear of the unknown stifle our trust in the Lord?
We all go through times of discouragement when we feel like nothing will ever get better and the only solution is for the Lord to hasten His return. But He told us to, ” Wait patiently upon the Lord and do not grow weary in well doing.” When we have days like these it is a good idea to seek out someone we know who spends a lot of time in service to the Lord. Spend a day, or a few minutes, with a dedicated Christian and see how the Lord is working in the lives of others.
In the small church where I accepted Jesus there were many dedicated Christians who lived their faith daily and not just on Sunday. I thank the Lord often for allowing me to get to know those people and placing me in that particular church. One couple, Phil and Brenda, were the youth directors, married with two small children at the time. I spent many hours in their home and saw the Lord work in their lives in many wonderful ways.
Brenda shared once how she had taken Phil’s pick-up truck to a nearby town and a sudden west Texas rain storm came up on her way home. She fiddled with the wiper switch as the rain got heavier and heavier. The wipers worked for a few seconds, then they’d stop. Brenda prayed they would work just long enough for her to get home….and they did. When she got home Phil was frantic and so glad she’d made it. She told him about the windshield wipers and how she’d prayed and God had kept them working.
Phil gasped and praised the Lord. “That’s why I was so worried,” he told her. “That switch came off in my hand the other day and I hadn’t had time to fix it…it wasn’t even hooked up to the wipers!”
If you want to see God work His miracles ask Him to renew your faith and start hanging out with His people. You’ll see mountains move right into the sea!
