ALBUQUERQUE  — The   rainy season kicked in this month, dropping between 2 inches and 5 inches of rain across the state during the first seven days of August.

From Aug. 1 through Sunday, unofficial measurements show 2.66 inches in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights, 2.40 inches in Sandia Park, 2.50 in Placitas, 2.53 in Santa Fe, 2.83 in Quemado, 3.30 in  San Miguel County,  and a startling 5.61 in  Mora County.

Chances for isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast through the rest of the week.

YAHOO NEWS: A Southern California wildfire has surged in size and put thousands of homes in potential peril. Smoke plumes roiling from flaming ridges of the San Bernardino Mountains blew all the way across the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas as the blaze on Monday forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes. Helicopters sucked loads of water from nearby Silverwood Lake to douse flames leaping across slopes.     YAHOO NEWS REPORT
