Debate Night

Tonight may well be the most anticipated presidential debate in modern history. In fact, tonight’s debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is taking place on the anniversary of the very first nationally televised presidential debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

Many analysts predict the home-viewing audience tonight will shatter the record set by the 1980 Reagan/Carter debate, which had nearly 81 million viewers. The stakes for both campaigns and our country are high.

Tonight’s debate starts at 9:00 p.m. EST. Click here for more details.

Murder At Macy’s

Friday night, Arcan Cetin walked into the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington. He walked up to the makeup counter at Macy’s and opened fire, killing four women. A man who attempted to help his wife when she tripped as they were fleeing was shot three times. He later died in the hospital.

Press reports initially described Cetin as Hispanic. But we later learned that the shooter is a Turkish immigrant. Cetin is a permanent resident who has been in the country for several years. One person who knew him in high school described him as “creepy, rude and obnoxious.”

Cetin has a criminal history involving multiple cases of domestic violence and at least one drunk driving charge. Authorities insist that there is no link to terrorism at this time, but they have no idea what his motivation was. But the Associated Press reports that one of his social media accounts contained “photos of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.” Perhaps we will learn more later.

Cetin’s shootings follow on the heels of last week’s stabbing attack on a Minnesota mall by a Somali immigrant. These events should spark a national conversation, but many in our media and political establishments are in denial. But given this latest mall attack, I want to revisit another story from late last week that got next to no press coverage.

After keeping his promise to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees, President Obama is now proposing to allow 110,000 refugees from around the world into America next year. Top security officials have expressed serious concerns about our ability to vet refugees. Not surprisingly, the public opposes the president’s refugee policy.

But in spite of Obama’s assurances that refugees can be adequately vetted, a memo from the Department of Homeland Security suggests otherwise. The memo states, “Refugee fraud is easy to commit, yet not easy to investigate,” adding that “bad actors . . . have exploited this program.”

Concerns about our porous borders and lax immigration policies aren’t just wild speculation. We know ISIS is infiltrating terrorists into the swarms of migrants and refugees. Obama’s CIA director acknowledges the threat.

We know that hundreds of immigrants and refugees have been charged with terrorism-related crimes since 9/11.

Meanwhile, Breitbart is reporting that it has obtained leaked documents from the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center indicating how many “terrorist encounters occurred within the United States” in the past year. The report is based on encounters with individuals “known or reasonably suspected of being terrorists [who] attempted to sneak into the U.S. across the border.” How many “terrorist encounters” were there? Nearly 8,000!
