Outwardly, dad no longer remembered who I was. At the end, we had no verbal communication. But, the last day I was with him, he turned his pleading eyes to mine. We communicated . . . for the last time. Eye to eye, we both knew . . .
Alzheimer’s is the most unfair and slow killing disease to which I have been a witness. It often begins in subtle losses of short-term memory episodes, not overly worrisome. It may also move its victim into child-like speech and behavior, accompanied by seemingly untimely giggles and laughter. It is not uncommon for the child-like behavior to turn very selfish and often unkind. For some victims of this cruel aggressor, their words and behavior turns very much unlike their normal life characteristics, becoming excessively ungodly. They are no longer who they were. Finally, all forms of communication fails.
America is the victim of cruel and deadly Alzheimer’s disease. All of the phases of digression and degeneration have been experienced slowly over these many years. Communication fails. Understanding lost. Death-rattle nearing.
America, I too, was once at the threshold of that death-rattle. I found that the only avoidance was by God Himself.
I know that America is not the Church of our LORD Jesus Christ. However, He has used and blessed her in the past, so these words I close with have an application . . .
“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent . . .” (Revelation 2:5)
