John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. <NKJV>
One day, as I was driving to work, Switchfoot’s song “Afterlife” came on. I was singing along:
‘Cause every day the world is made….A chance to change but I feel the same, And I wonder why would I wait till I die to come alive…..I’m ready now, I’m not waiting for the afterlife…
I said, “Lord, that’s exactly right!”
His response: “Yes, life is now.”
Read John 10:10 again. I don’t believe we’re to live our lives all down in the dumps just waiting, and looking, dragging by until we get to heaven.
I don’t live that way. The LORD has taught me that life is today. My goal is to know Him and through that relationship, He pours out of me to others.
I once it heard it said that a person all wrapped up in themselves makes a very small package. When we are focused on ourselves, we become ineffective. We need His perspective, and to walk in His love to reach those around us.
No one ever said that things would always be easy, Paul said:
Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. <Philippians 4:11-13 NLT>
Paul KNEW the Lord, and he counted on Him. That is what He wants from us….to know Him. In this way, knowing and abiding in Him, He will minister to others through you. It’s your choice.
Deuteronomy 30:19,20 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days…<NKJV>
My beloved brothers and sisters, choose LIFE today. Please don’t wait to live an abundant life later. Abide in Him and let His love be your love, His perspective, yours. Get to know Him and draw your strength from Him. Let Him be your life. Amen.
