Israel Brings Fires Under Control After Tough Battle
Improving weather and a massive injection of support from several countries around the world helped Israel get raging wildfires under control over the weekend, although several areas continued to burn Monday morning. Unofficial and preliminary estimates put the financial damage from the fires at over NIS 2 billion, making it one of the costliest disasters in Israeli history.
Israel Strikes IS Positions in Syria Following Rocket Attack
In response to a rocket attack into Israeli territory Sunday evening by the Islamic State (IS) terror militia, the Israeli Air Force launched strikes early Monday morning on “an abandoned military facility, which was previously used by the United Nations and served as a location for ISIS to consolidate their offensive forces and operations near the border,” according to a military spokesman.
Israel to Acquire Another 17 F-35I Attack Aircraft
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his security cabinet voted unanimously on Sunday evening to purchase an additional 17 F-35I fighters from US defense conglomerate Lockheed Martin at an estimated cost of nearly $2.5 billion. The announcement means Israel has exercised the option to buy 50 of the 75 F-35 aircraft pre-authorized by the US Congress.
