A Big Day!

Last night, President Trump tweeted, “Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow. Among many other things, we will build the wall!” Today he followed through with two executives orders.

The first authorizes the construction of a wall along the Mexican border. The second directs the federal government to terminate grants to sanctuary cities, a move the vast majority of Americans support.

Some have said that building a wall is impractical, if not impossible. Are we a superpower or not? Do we have the will to defend our borders or not?

The Saudis have a border wall. The Israelis have a great security fence. If the Chinese could build a great wall hundreds of years ago to defend their border, I think we can too.

In the days ahead, President Trump is also expected to sign additional executive orders calling for a system of “extreme vetting” for refugees and suspending visas from several nations known to be hotbeds of radical Islamic terrorism.

Investigating Voter Fraud

In recent days, President Trump got the media talking about voter fraud. Of course, the liberal media largely parrot the talking points of the left and completely dismiss the issue.

But now that he has the media’s attention, President Trump has called for a “major investigation” into voter fraud. And why wouldn’t he?

The left is making a big deal about the popular vote. It routinely mocks concerns about the integrity of our elections and yet fights popular initiatives like voter ID laws. Meanwhile, it is up to its eyeballs in irregular activities. Remember ACORN?

Donald Trump is president. It is his Justice Department (or will be as soon as Sen. Jeff Sessions is confirmed.) So I applaud this announcement. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned, and they have nothing to do with Russian hackers!

As the Heritage Foundation has noted, a 2014 study found that an “estimated 6.4 percent of noncitizens voted illegally in the 2008 presidential election.” In addition, a 2013 poll found that “13 percent of noncitizen respondents admitted they were registered to vote.” And left-wing states like California are enabling such illegal activity.

Another Big Announcement

This morning, President Trump announced that he will name a Supreme Court nominee next Thursday, February 2nd, to fill the vacant seat of Justice Antonin Scalia. As we have noted, Senate liberals are vowing to block any nominee who does not meet the litmus tests of the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.

President Trump produced a list of potential nominees during the campaign. But as people delve into their backgrounds, various conservatives are raising questions about some of them.

Perhaps President Trump should continue doing things differently and nominate Utah Sen. Mike Lee. While Lee was not a Trump fan, he is solidly conservative and his Senate seat would be safe. Liberal senators would likely oppose him due to his ideological views, but I think it would be very hard from them to smear Sen. Lee.

House Makes Hyde Permanent

For 40 years, Republicans and Democrats in Congress have been able to agree on one thing: Taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortions. This policy became known as the “Hyde Amendment,” named after the late pro-life leader Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL).

It was an easy position for politicians to take because polls (here and here) have consistently found that large majorities of the American people do not want their hard-earned tax dollars used to destroy innocent unborn babies.

I am pleased to report that last night the House of Representatives voted to make the Hyde Amendment a permanent feature of federal law. The legislation also prohibits Obamacare from paying for abortions.

While the legislation passed the House, I was, nevertheless, deeply disturbed by the vote because 183 representatives opposed the bill.

This should not have been a controversial or partisan issue. Sadly, the political left has become so extreme in its pro-abortion views that many liberal politicians now insist that you should be forced to pay for abortions. But you won’t hear that from the “mainstream media.”
