Crisis Between US and Iran Deepening

Iranian officials sneeringly rejected a warning issued by the Trump Administration in Washington Thursday over its recent tests of ballistic missiles and other destabilizing activities. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi declared that the reports his own government aren’t denying regarding the missile tests are “baseless, repetitive and provocative,” while IRGC General Hossein Salami boasted that “the number of Iranian missiles, warships and defense missile launchers is growing every day.”

Trump Administration Warns Israel Over Settlement Construction

The Trump Administration issued a warning to Israel on Thursday to stop making announcements of new settlement construction in order to give the Administration time to review the Middle East Peace Process and come up with its own ideas about how to move forward with it.

Netanyahu Set To Visit London

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to London on Sunday for meetings with senior government officials including Prime Minister Theresa May. On Thursday, Netanyahu said the visit would focus on “the changing reality in our region, and the need to adopt new, common approaches to face the big challenges in our region, first and foremost the threat from Iran.”

Israel and Turkey Re-establish Strong Ties

This week saw high level diplomatic meetings bringing together officials from Turkey and Israel, the first such meetings since the crisis sparked by the Mavi Marmara flotilla incident in May of 2010. The meeting resulted in a joint statement by the two governments that they wished to emphasize “the importance of better Turkish-Israeli relations for the stability and the security of the region.”

Israel’s Business Ties With the World Stregthen

Governmental, law enforcement and private entities in Japan are looking to Israel for help is dealing with cyber-security issues ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Finance Ministers from the two countries signed an agreement this week to make it easier for private firms from the two countries to cooperate. Meanwhile, budget airline Ryanair announced this week that it is adding an additional 15 routes to the Jewish State from sevreal different European cities.

The Palestinian Authority decided on January 31, 2017, to extend the date of the municipal elections to mid-May 2017. This is yet another sign that the leadership in Ramallah is losing touch with reality, and the January 31 decision is another example of the Palestinian Authority crumbling.
