****ACTION ALERT–HB250 ON HOUSE FLOOR CALENDAR–CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE****
Friends,
HB250, the bill that would outlaw the expansion of the state lottery to “play at the pump,” online lottery games, and video lottery terminals (i.e., slots), passed House Business and Industry Committee in the last day and is on the House temporary calendar. HB250 could be heard within a day or two, so we need to get the phone lines flooded with people supporting this bill ASAP.
Personal contacts are the best contact, followed by telephone contact, followed by fax, followed by email, in order of effectiveness.
When you call your representative’s office, usually you will have to leave a message with their secretary. Be polite and patient. You don’t have to sound like an expert on the bill. Use your own words to say why you want the representative to support HB 250. You might mention that you don’t like any expansion of the lottery, or playing it at the gas pump is a bad idea, or you are worried about video lottery games. But mainly, just ask them to support HB 250.
You can click here to go to the page “Find Your Legislator by Address.” Go to the first field, “Political Body,” and scroll to “House.” In the next field titled “Address” type in your address, including City, State and ZIP code. Click on “Search.” That will bring up the name of your representative and his/her picture. Click on their name and it will bring up their website with all their contact information. Call the listed office number in Santa Fe to reach them. If you can’t open their website, call the legislative switchboard at 505-986-4300 and ask for their office.
There is still time for HB250 to get through the legislature, but we need to give it momentum with lots of support. Please call right away.
Thank you,
Dr. Guy Clark, chairman
