Israel’s Political Crisis Ends

A crisis among Israel’s governing coalition which had threatened to send the country into fresh elections was resolved on Thursday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced at press conference alongside visiting Slovak President Andrej Kiska that he and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon had reached an agreement over the future of Israel’s public broadcasting programs which satisfied both sides and would allow them to continue serving together in the coalition.

Arab League Summit Affirms Support for Two-State Solution

The 28th Arab League Summit concluded in Jordan on Wednesday, issuing a concluding statement endorsing the “two-state solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as warning world governments not to move their embassies to Jerusalem and to “respect all UN Security Council resolutions” regarding Israel. Several of the Arab leaders who participated in the Summit are scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump in the coming weeks.

Israel to Make Further Cuts in UN Funding

Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that it is cutting $2 million from its contribution to the UN and will instead grant those monies to development programs in countries which support Israel in various international forums. The statement added that the step was being taking in order to encourage a change in the “obsessive bias against Israel at the UN and in its agencies.”

EU Parliament Group Hosts Israeli Terror Victims

The Samaria Regional Council sponsored an event at the European Union Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday to give Israeli victims of Palestinian terrorism a chance to tell MEPs their stories and urge them to move against the Palestinian Authority’s practice of using monies granted by the EU to pay the families of terrorists who carry out attacks against Israelis. The event was hosted by a new caucus in the EU Parliament called Friends of Judea and Samaria.

Bird Enthusiasts Flock to Israel

Around 200 bird watchers from several countries around the world gathered in southern Israel this week to observe the massive flocks of migratory species making their way north to Europe after spending the cold winter months in Eastern Africa. The fourth annual “Champions of the Flyway” event was more than just fun, as participants raised NIS 254,000 to work against illegal bird-hunting in Turkey.

A March poll by leading Israeli pollster Dr. Mina Tzemach found a decrease in support among Israeli Jews for withdrawal from the West Bank and the establishment of a Palestinian state. The poll indicates that the Israeli public does not agree to Palestinian demands for an independent state on all the territory of the West Bank, including east Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, with its capital in Jerusalem.
