Governor Susana Martinez Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor and Mourning of Navajo Nation Police Officer Houston James Largo

Santa Fe, NM — Today, Governor Susana Martinez issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, March 16, in honor and mourning of Navajo Nation Police Officer Houston James Largo.

The full text of the executive order is below:

Executive Order 2017-004
FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR AND MOURNING OF NAVAJO NATION POLICE OFFICER HOUSTON JAMES LARGO

     WHEREAS, On Sunday, March 12, 2017, Navajo Nation Police Officer Houston James Largo was killed in the line of duty;

     WHEREAS, Officer Largo was responding to a domestic violence call when he was fatally shot by a suspect;

     WHEREAS, Officer Largo was a decorated veteran of the Navajo Nation Police Department, with four and a half years of decorated service;

     WHEREAS, Officer Largo was from Thoreau, New Mexico, and served with the Department’s Crownpoint District;

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, Susana Martinez, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, March 16th, 2017, the day Officer Largo is laid to rest. The thoughts and prayers of the people of New Mexico go out to his loved ones in gratitude for his service.
