Stop big insurance companies from bringing assisted suicide to NM,
where more suicides = more profits
|
SB 252, the End of Life Options Act, was heard on the House side before, and progressives realized they did not have the votes in a committee stacked with their own. The American Medical Association has laid out the following statement in regard to assisted suicide:
“Physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompatible with the physicians role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks. Instead of engaging in assisted suicide, physicians must aggressively respond to the needs of patients at the end of life.”
With their sponsorship of SB 282, the Patient Protections bill, Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino’s and Senator Mimi Stewart’s abortion extremism is on full display. SB 282 forces Christians to refer patients for abortions and religiously-affiliated hospitals to perform abortions.
If signed into law, SB 282 will repeal New Mexico state exemptions for persons and institutions with “moral or religious” objections to abortion. The bill states, “notwithstanding the provisions of any other state law, a hospital shall not refuse to provide a reproductive health service to a patient if withholding the reproductive health service would result in or prolong a serious risk to the patient’s life or health; and where a failure to provide the reproductive health service would violate the medical standard of care owed the patient.”
HB 473, the Decriminalize Abortion bill, is an aggressive abortion bill that aims to decriminalize abortion and strikes key provisions in New Mexico statute that protect healthcare providers from participating in an abortion against their religious or moral objections. The bill would also allow non-physicians to perform abortion procedures.
