Hunger Strike by Palestinian Prisoners Fizzling Out
The “hunger strike” by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, launched with much fanfare and controversy last week, has already begun to fizzle out, with dozens of prisoners announcing they were ending their fast over the weekend. Fatah, the political faction which dominates the Palestinian Authority, has called for a general strike on Thursday and a “Day of Rage” on Friday to show solidarity with the prisoners, but Israeli officials monitoring the situation dismissed this saying that ordinary Palestinians have shown little enthusiasm for political theatrics.
