Here’s a quote from the article:
The report [of this denomination’s proceedings] acknowledged that “conservative arguments” are based on the Bible’s recognition of sexual immorality, including same-sex acts, as sinful.
But it justified its decision on the grounds that “scriptural condemnations of same-sex sexual activity were framed in cultural contexts very different from our own”.
Here’s my opinion:
Since God does not change, it must be that human beings , deceived by “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16), have changed the cultural contexts … and moved away from godliness …
Since God does not change, it could be that we human beings could repent and move back toward God and His holiness …
I John 1: 9 is available to us individually. I believe it can apply to us as congregations and as denominations as well.
If Jesus is building his church in such a way that the gates of hell will not prevail against it, we should be very careful regarding on which side we choose to be …
