Fear of war time experiences is normal in all people, of all ages. But there is uniqueness in the American soldier that causes one to rise to a level of courage that overcomes the fear. That uniqueness is American patriotism.
Memorial Day is yet another Thanksgiving to me. While I will not celebrate the dying of young patriots, I am thankful that these young patriots indeed lived. For where would America be today without having had these heroes live among us? After all, one cannot give a life that has not lived first.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13 KJV)
