“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:6-7
This verse sounds an alarm! And there’s a good reason for that red flag. It’s meant to instill awesome respect and holy fear for the Lord. For God is not a jolly old saint who rebukes us with a shake of His finger. Neither is He biting His nails on our behalf or wringing His hands and hoping that we’ll do the right thing. Sin still greatly offends Him as it did in the Old Testament. Sin is an insult. It is an affront.
Maybe you’ve been dabbling into sin. Careless flirtations. Lazy thoughts. Fudgings of the truth. If you’ve been sweeping them under the carpet of your conscience, if you think, “God will always be there… He’ll forgive me sooner or later…so I’ll choose later,” then wake up! God will not always allow Himself to be found. One day you may try to call on Him, and He won’t be near.
Your heart will be too hard to feel His touch. Your ears will be too dull to hear His voice. Your eyes will not be able to see the Light. All because you spurned His rebuke and chose not to fear the Lord.
“They will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me. Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord, since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes” (Proverbs 1:28-31).
Lord, I never want to lose my sensitivity to sin. I repent of my transgressions, great and small. I turn the other way and seek Your face. Thank You for being near!
