Another National Day of Prayer has come and gone, and we have so much to be thankful to God for! On Thursday, May 4th, from early morning until late in the evening, a common cry was heard throughout our nation, as millions lifted their voices and cried out “Hear us! Forgive us! Heal us!”
Coast to coast, from New England to the west, from the mid-west to our southern borders, God’s people gathered to pray. From prayer flights over all 50 state capitols to thousands meeting in churches, parks, city halls, and stadiums, intercession was made—and the God of heaven and earth heard! Because of God’s faithfulness, and for “His name’s sake” the National Day of Prayer was once again center stage in our nation’s capital! From the morning’s reception at the White House to the evening’s congressionally sponsored gathering in historic Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol Building. God and prayer were once again given honor by our nation’s leaders.
It is apparent now more than ever that Christians possess the opportunity for unprecedented action for unprecedented times through the power of prayer. We are seeing a fulfillment of James 5:16, that the “effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man, avails much,” right before our very eyes. At the same time, not since the unrest of the 1960’s, has our nation been more divided and polarized— in such great need of urgent prayer! We must continue to work hard, while we can, to engage, equip, and encourage millions more to pray for America—to cry out to God daily and to keep this momentum going!
Pray for America 2017 is about mobilizing national daily prayer. Launching September 11th, the National Day of Prayer Task Force will once again call our nation to gather for Cry Out America, to pray on Patriot Day! On November 2nd, hundreds of prayer leaders will gather in Colorado Springs for our web-streamed National Leadership Summit 2017, titled Miracles and Mission. Our media campaigns, online tools, and new apps will help facilitate participation in national and local events—all year long!
For almost 27 years, the National Day of Prayer Task Force has led the charge for prayer in our Nation. According to a recent Barna study, 99% of pastors know about the National Day of Prayer annual observance, due to our efforts of raising awareness! Unfortunately, we also learned that only 3 out of 10 pastors know about the National Day of Prayer Task Force and the many resources that we offer to help them mobilize prayer in their churches and communities. We must get the word out, and we need your help!
A. T. Pierson, who succeeded Charles Spurgeon in the pulpit of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, was close friends with leaders such as Spurgeon, C. I. Scofield, D. L. Moody, and George Müller. Pierson had seen and experienced awakening in his day, and his observation was this: “There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer.” Do we want to experience a third Great Awakening? Do we want to see another Jesus Movement? Do we yearn to experience true revival and see God’s Spirit poured out once again? Pray, volunteer, sponsor an event in your community, or support this important work with a financial gift.
No matter how you choose to engage, your support will be instrumental in rallying millions more to pray—and Lord willing, seeing God bring about an even greater movement of the Spirit of God in our day!
Thank you for your support,
