Israel Prepares for Rocket Blitz

The Israeli Air Force inducted a new cohort of draftees to the Ariel Defense Division on Wednesday, the first such cohort since the David’s Sling missile-defense system became operational. Brig.-Gen. Zvika Haimovich, who commands the Division, told the Jerusalem Post that the threat is multi-faceted and could potentially come at Israel from all directions in the event of a general war, adding “we will see surprises [by the enemy] in the next escalation, so we must think outside the box regarding the threats, so that we are ready.”

Terrorism Strikes Central Israel

The central Israeli city of Yavne was the site of a terrorist stabbing attack Wednesday afternoon, when a 19-year old Palestinian man who had entered Israel illegally from the West Bank entered a grocery store and randomly set upon a 42-year old Jewish man working there. The victim of the attack, which was recorded by a store security camera, was in critical condition at a hospital in nearby Rehovot Thursday morning, while the terrorist was in police custody after briefly attempting to flee the scene of his attack.

Israeli-Built Satellites Launched Into Space

Two satellites built by Israeli companies, the first a surveillance and reconnaissance platform for the Italian Defense Ministry and the other a scientific satellite for the French and Israeli space agencies, were successfully launched into orbit Wednesday in a twin launch from the European Union Spaceport in French Guiana. Both platforms were constructed by Israel Aerospace Industries and carried high-resolution cameras and monitoring equipment built by Israel’s Elbit systems.

Iran Rebuked by US, Defended by Russia

Iran received a strong diplomatic rebuke this week from the US, UK, France and Germany over its recent test launch of a “Simorgh” rocket capable of putting a satellite into space but also theoretically capable of delivering a nuclear payload to a target somewhere on the surface of the earth. Russia defended Iran however, rejecting the assertion that the launch constituted a violation of UN Security Council resolutions or the JCPOA nuclear agreement.

Israel Blesses the World

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology recently unveiled new 3D printing technology utilizing semiconductor-metal hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) known as photo initiators for 3D printing in water. The new technology has a variety of applications from medical treatments to more traditional uses such as increasing the efficiency or production in plastics-based manufacturing.
