Exodus 14:5-14 (NKJV): Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people; and they said, “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. 7 Also, he took six hundred choice chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt with captains over every one of them. 8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with boldness. 9 So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon. 10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? 12 Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.” 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Do you ever look at this and ask yourself, “Why do people want to return to struggles that God delivered them from when the going gets hard?” I know I do. It’s interesting to think that when God wants to grow our faith, the trials seem to get hard and then first thing we may think of is, “ It was so much easier before I started to follow Jesus”. Do you suppose that’s why Solomon wrote in the Proverbs:
Proverbs 26:11 (NKJV): As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly.
It would appear that we are practicing “insanity”, doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. We know it didn’t work before. We know it lead us into more difficulties. Instead, we think, “It’s going to be different this time”
When God lead Israel out of Egypt, He told them that they were to flee. He literally told them that when Pharaoh was going to let them go, they had to be prepared to “Run to the hills”. He knew the pain they were suffering. He knew that before they left, they were going to experience more struggles. He knew that they were not done dealing with Pharaoh when they left because there was going to be one more struggle. He allowed this all to happen so that they would see Him work and know that He is God and will provide a way.
Today, we need to apply that same thinking into our own lives. We need to remember that He didn’t deliver us from our past struggles to return to them when the going gets hard. I’m fact, we need to remember that He uses struggles for us to grow in Faith and in our reliance on Him.
Romans 5:1-5 (NKJV): Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have[a] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
When Jesus cleanses is from our past life, essentially He is saying, “The old is gone. Don’t return to the past. Look to the future. Be prepared for a new life and new things to happen”
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.
