True Love

Mark 12:29-31 (NKJV): Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

February 14th is Valentines Day. Many will go and spend a lot of money to prove to their significant other and/or family/friends, how much they love them. In fact, an article on NWI.com (https://www.nwitimes.com/business/investment/markets-and-stocks/how-much-money-will-you-waste-on-valentine-s-day/article_6ba1b9bc-88c8-5fed-afdc-f1a63e80cf9b.html) states the following statistics:

  • $2 billion on flowers.
  • $1.7 billion on candy.
  • $4.3 billion on jewelry.
  • $1 billion on greeting cards.

That’s a lot of money being spent to show one’s affections in one day.

However, if we take a look at what Jesus told us, we should show love consistently. When we look at what He stated here, we are to love God first and then we are to love others. It seems He is saying that by loving God first, we learn how to love. Why? Take a look at what John wrote.

1 John 4:7-11 (NKJV):  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

When we look at what John wrote, we see that God is Love. This is not an attribute but it is who He is. It is a standard He set for us. In another area of 1 John, we read that “We love God, because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19).

So, what is “True Love”? It’s the Love we receive from God. It was evidenced through Jesus’ crucifixion and Resurrection. It is evidenced by the fact He is long-suffering and has not delivered the judgment on us that we deserve. It is shown by how He made a way for us to be restored to Him. And when we learn how to love like He does, then we can truly love others.

Do you want to learn “True Love”? Seek a Relationship with Jesus.

If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.
