“Moses, My servant is dead.” (Joshua 1:2a)
When Israel needed their great leader the most, he was gone!
“And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
5 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.
6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
7 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.” (Deuteronomy 34:4-7)
Moses was a great leader! Now, he’s gone! Nevertheless, they pressed on!
Listen, things in life are always changing, and not necessarily for the better. People change. Circumstances change. Relationships change. Commitments weaken. Death happens. Your health will change. Sometimes personal disappointment delays life’s greatest dreams. Beloved, Joshua was 85 when he assumed leadership. As one of the twelve spies sent in to evaluate the Promised Land, he experienced the disappointment in his faithless Hebrew brothers. He had waited in frustration for 40 years, nevertheless, he pressed on!
My friend, what human circumstances are keeping you from pressing on with God’s will for your life? Are they more difficult than what Joshua faced?
Beloved, it’s ok to weep passionately over the disappointments of your life; those things which have not happened as you had hoped. Grieve over those disappointments for a season. Then wipe your eyes and clean the tracks of your tears from your face. Trust Jehovah God while embracing, with joy-filled satisfaction, the life you have at the moment, and press on!
