Psalm 119:17-24, Seeking God’s Help

  1. Psalm 119:17-24 (NKJV): Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word. 18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. 19 I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me. 20 My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times. 21 You rebuke the proud—the cursed, Who stray from Your commandments. 22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, For I have kept Your testimonies. 23 Princes also sit and speak against me, But Your servant meditates on Your statutes. 24 Your testimonies also are my delight
    And my counselors.

We see here the Psalmist recognizing that if he follows God, he will receive persecution and rejection from those in the world. He does not want to fall away from following God because of this. He is asking for Help to get through the discouragement he is going to go through.

The Psalmist is also recognizing that he will receive blessings from following God. What are the blessings? That he will no longer be involved in a life that has led him to depression, anxiety, fear, anger or anything of this nature. The blessings that will also follow are that God would use him to help others.

How many times have we reached discouragement because others have mocked us for following God? How many times have we tried to help others only to have them reject our help? How many times have we tried to help only to have people try to take advantage of our help?

We can learn from the Psalmist here that our strength comes From seeking God. He desired to have a Relationship with God that would only help him to grow more. He set an example here for us to seek a Relationship as well.

So, our take away from this portion of Psalm 119 today should be, that we learn to Trust God. We need to learn that in all things, He is Working, whether we see it or not.

We will continue to be looking at this Psalm in sections. Although,  we need Jesus to bring us back into A Relationship with God The Father, this Psalm lays a foundation of how we should be walking in our Faith walks.

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.

It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.
