As I type this Friday morning at 5:30am I am praying for all the firefighters that are fighting fires today. While many will enjoy Memorial Day weekend with family and friends, many firefighters will be on the front lines fighting fires.
I pray that the leaders in New Mexico call for days of fasting and prayer.
When we drove to Reserve this past Sunday, I preach on a regular basis at FBC in Reserve, the State Highway Dept. had posted “EXTREME FIRE DANGER” signs.
Last night I was talking to my friend Stacy in Reserve, New Mexico. A forest fire, the Buzzard fire, rages on outside of Reserve, having burned at last report 4,600 acres in Catron County.
The Apache Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. is helping fight that fire.
I know some of ther Apache Creek Volunteer Firefighters. They sent me a hat and t-shirt in the mail thanking me for what I do, I humbly wear the gifts, but they are the heroes, they are the ones that should be honored and prayed for, we should pray for all first responders.
The drought is getting worse here in New Mexico. Please do not take our firefighters for granted.
Please read the latest on the drought here ABQ Journal Report
THE HOT SHOT’S PRAYER
WHEN I AM CALLED TO DUTY, LORD…
TO FIGHT THE ROARING BLAZE…
PLEASE KEEP ME SAFE AND STRONG…
I MAY BE HERE FOR DAYS.
BE WITH MY FELLOW CREWMEMBERS…
AS WE HIKE UP TO THE TOP.
HELP US CUT ENOUGH LINE…
FOR THIS BLAZE TO STOP.
LET MY SKILLS AND HANDS…
BE FIRM AND QUICK.
LET ME FIND THOSE SAFETY ZONES.
AS WE HIT AND LICK.
FOR IF THIS DAY ON THE LINE…
I SHOULD ANSWER DEATH’S CALL…
LORD, BLESS MY HOT SHOT CREW…
MY FAMILY, ONE AND ALL.
Let is be in constant prayer for the families and all firefighters.
