Matthew 5:5 (NKJV): Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Dictionary.com defines it as:
- humbly patient or docile, as under provocation from others.
- overly submissive or compliant; spiritless; tame.
- Obsolete. gentle; kind.
In other words, it is another way of saying humble. But why did Jesus say meek and not humble again? Well, here it is talking about a gentleness. He is referring to having that calm, gentle, kind word that would be effective in winning someone’s trust. He is talking about showing a love or compassion for someone who is hurting.
Jesus talked quite a bit of showing love to others. It is in this love that we win them over. It is the type of Love that He modeled. If we remember, wherever He went, He would take care of the needs at hand before He would deliver a message. Why? Because He cared for those in need. This is The Example of Love He Modeled.
When we are “meek”, we are putting others above ourselves. We are showing them that we really do care for them. We are setting a ground for them that they would want to come and talk to us, which, would open the door for them to receive Te Greatest Message of Love out there, that Jesus died for us, He rose again, and He will come back for those who follow Him. Or in simpler way, we have access to The Father through a Relationship with Him.
When Jesus said the meek will inherit the earth, He was saying that we will win more over to The Kingdom when we put them over us. We will show them His Love more this way than by puffing ourselves up. We show more with humility than we do with the attitude of, “Look at Me”. Instead, it should be “Look at Him”.
