Today the Albuquerque Journal started a three-part series on what they are calling: Ground Zero for the Homeless: Residents, businesses struggle with the issue daily. My heart broke as I read the story. You see, like some of you I have had people in my life you have been homeless. This is a growing problem just not here in Albuquerque, but in America.

ABQ Journal Report

Danny Whatley Thanks Dewey Moede for letting people know about the Journal articles. Today’s article was a fair representation about this issue in our city. Rick Nathanson of the Journal has been working on these articles for the past several months and has always been fair and professional n his reporting. It is my privilege to have served as the Director at the Rock for the past ten years and it is even more pleasurable to me to be exactly where God wants me to be, doing what God has called me to do. With that said, we are experiencing issues within the homeless community that we have never experienced. We are seeing a large number of younger folks experiencing homelessness and with that population comes a whole new set of problems and concerns. We at the Rock still feel that the greatest need of those experiencing homelessness or anyone for that matter, is a relationship with Christ. We share the Gospel with our words and by showing the compassion of Christ. Thanks again for bringing this need to the attention of your followers and I ask them to pray for those that are the hands and feet of ministry’s to the homeless and hurting.

We are a hurting nation, a divided nation, more divided than anytime in my lifetime. I am 62…I just watched the “Darkest Hour” the story of Winston Churchill, he took the division in England and united the Country to victory. True leadership. America is in a dark hour at this time on many issues., including such hate. Homeless people have been killed by young boys here in Albuquerque, such hate is of the devil. Americans are killing each other with guns, just today another mass shooting, this time in Jacksonville, Florida. Early reports are saying there are multiple fatalities, this also is of the devil.

We really have to seek the heart of Jesus on all issues.

Luke 14:13-14

But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

Matthew 25:32-45

Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ …

Luke 12:33-34

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Proverbs 19:17

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Matthew 5:42

Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Isaiah 58:7

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Politics is not the answer, Jesus is………..

This is what happens when we do not have the minds of Christ. When we are not grounded in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Too much of the world struggles with the “natural mind” The thinking process that is limited to human reason and resources. Human history shows that the natural mind becomes progressively self-destructive if left to it’s own desires. People who are directed by their natural minds walk in darkness and have incorrect thinking.
“So I tell you this, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” Eph 4:17,18
The Word of God calls the mind of a natural man “blinded” 2 Cor. 4:4 “depraved” Romans 1:28, “corrupt” 1 Tim 6:5, and “unspiritual” Col. 2:18. The natural mind thinks from a humanistic  sin-debased viewpoint. The viewpoint of the flesh directs it’s thoughts. The sinful mind is under control of satan.
This why we must share the light of Jesus Christ to one person at a time……..what I just shared with you is why so many of the folks in our government struggle!
