Is it sinful to worry?Aug 3, 2018 |
|
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham
Q: I am a terrible worrier, and nothing I try seems to help me conquer this crippling emotion. The older I get the more timid I become. Even a simple rainfall causes me to alter my plans and stay inside. Is this sinful? — W.W. Ask yourself why you do not worry about some things. Is it because, in the case of running water, it has always been there when you wanted it? Or that a tree has never fallen on your house before? Certainty breeds trust, doesn’t it? We can be just as certain and worry-free about God’s love and protection. What is the evidence? It is the cross, where God fully expressed His love for us. Since Jesus overcame death, can He not help us overcome worry about things that will probably never happen? We should turn worry into gratitude for all the times He has seen us through difficulties. Worries flee before a spirit of gratitude and the Lord is pleased when we trust Him (1 Peter 5:7). ======== (This column is based on the words and writings of the late Rev. Billy Graham.)
