TAOS — The five adults found living on a filthy Taos County compound with 11 malnourished children are expected to make their first appearance in federal court Today. All five suspects were recently charged by the FBI on federal charges after heavy ammunition and weapons were found on the compound. This comes after three of the five suspects were released from jail last week after the prosecution missed a deadline to hold a probable cause hearing. The case will now be heard by a grand jury where charges can be refiled in Taos county.

ALBUQUERQUE — While special education resources affect a large portion of Albuquerque Public Schools students – nearly one out of every five – many of the teachers and staff providing those services say they are feeling undervalued and overworked with “very low” morale. The Albuquerque Journal reports in a copyrighted story this morning says a 73-page survey report – commissioned by APS and the Albuquerque Teachers Federation union – details responses from 402 teachers and staff from special education departments across the district about their work lives. It’s a project that cost over $16,000, and had some revealing statistics, such as 45 percent of teachers and staff don’t feel APS’ special education department is an effectively managed and well-run department. The report addressed topics such as culture, communication, management and job satisfaction. Only about two-fifths of special ed teachers and staff would recommend APS as a good place to work. The results come at a time when the district is on the hunt to fill 160 special education teacher openings.

SANTA FE — Security doors, fencing, lighting and new intercom systems are among the safety improvements that New Mexico school districts have proposed to help prevent shootings. The Public School Facilities Authority is reviewing applications from districts requesting a portion of the $47.7 million earmarked for school security. Lawmakers agreed in February to award up to $16 million this year for safety improvement.

SANTA FE — Patients in New Mexico’s Medical Cannabis Program spent more than $27 million on their medication in April, May and June of this year. Some of the highest revenue numbers come from medical marijuana producers doing business in Santa Fe. While most nonprofit medical marijuana producers made profits, 12 of them — more than a third of the licensed producers in the state — reported being in the red when it comes to net profits for the quarter. Five of those reported losses of $100,000 or more. Although legislative efforts to legalize recreational marijuana have fizzled in the New Mexico Legislature in the past, state officials believe there are now enough votes among state lawmakers for legalization.

and now from the KDAZ Good News FiLE:
Last Friday morning, August 31st, Michelle Garcia Holmes, who is currently running for Lt. Governor of NM, initiated and hosted the 1st Annual Pro-Life Legislative Summit in Albuquerque held at the Albuquerque Country Club. My Wife Alice and I were there and they registered voters and shared about the pro life ministry with those attending. This event gave over 250 individuals the chance to hear from former, current and potential pro-life legislators first hand about the bills they’ve sponsored or plan to sponsor. This event was the first of it’s kind and will be followed up with trainings that will prepare the pro-life community for the upcoming legislative session in January. Thank you Michelle Garcia Holmes for planning this pro life event.
