Jesus is my Superpower
They say that moving and starting a new job are both on the Top 10 List of high stressors. I believe it. These past few months have been rough. I have both moved and started a new job. My husband tells me I’m a perfectionist. However, I don’t believe it, as I feel as if nothing I ever do is perfect…So what that I fit 9 items on the “10 Signs that you are a Perfectionist” list, or even that I have mentioned two separate Top 10 lists in the first paragraph of my story. LOL
I was praying the other night and began to pour out my fears, frustrations, and perceived failures before the Lord. The Lord often speaks to me in “pictures,” and soon I saw a picture of an empty glass. “Yes Lord, I feel empty,” I cried.
“Good,” He responded.
“Wh…What!?” I questioned.
“Good,” He repeated, “Now I can fill you.”
The picture of the empty glass turned to one that was filled up with the word “JESUS.”
The thought, “Jesus is my superpower” came to mind. He is or should be our source!
Fear, failure, and faulty thinking is to us, like kryptonite is to superman. It drains us of the power we have in Jesus to overcome. Not that those things are greater than Jesus, He overcomes all things. But, those things drain our cup that should be filled with JESUS if we allow them to become our focus. Soon, we are left holding a cup of frustration!
Fear, Failure, Faulty Thinking, = Frustration and Focus Issues
When we give those things to Jesus and focus on Him, He strengthens us for battle. The word says, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”
This morning, as I walked into the office, I noticed that the thoughts started to try to bombard me once again. However, because my cup was filled with Jesus-my superpower, I was able to take authority over them. (Insert cartoon caption of “BAM!” “POW!” “Zap!” here…)
The key here is learning to fill our cups with Jesus. Allow Him to take all your fears and whatever it is that seems to overwhelm your thoughts some days. Sometimes this takes several attempts, or even calling a friend and asking them to pray and agree with you.
The Bible tells us:
“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
If you find yourself being caught up in the 3 F’s, picture that glass in your mind. What level are you at? Is Jesus being crowded out by faulty thinking/focus issues? Write them down if you need to and then ask Jesus what He is saying to you. Write that down. Then, focus on what Jesus is saying about the situation. Find a couple scriptures that speak to the situation and write those down. Use the scriptures to speak over the situation when it tries to raise its ugly head. Spend time in praise, worship or reading the word. Remember, that Jesus is your superpower, call on His name…He will deliver you.
