Hamas Rejects Egyptian Demand for End to Violent Riots

Palestinian sources told regional media outlets over the weekend that the Islamist terror militia Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, has rejected a demand by Egypt that it lower the intensity of demonstrations on the border with Israel which have often devolved into violent riots in recent weeks. However, the riots last Friday were at a noticeably lower intensity than the previous Friday. “The Egyptians made it clear to Hamas that Israel was this time more serious than ever and would use unprecedented force if the violence continues along the border,” said one Palestinian analyst. “Apparently, Hamas issued instructions to its supporters to keep a low profile.”

The Palestinian Authority expressed its outrage over the weekend following the arrest of two senior PA officials by Israel, including Adnan Geith, PA “governor” of Jerusalem, and Col. Herb Keinon, JPost

Jordan’s announcement on Sunday that it wanted to opt out of annexes from its 1994 peace treaty with Israel that leased two border areas that historically were difficult to delineate to Israel is a sign that not all is well in ties between the two countries. More precisely, not all is well in ties between Israel and the Jordanian people.
