Looking for something? Because we look for things everyday.

Like when a husband questions the whereabouts of black dress socks or a t-shirt (hopefully not to wear together). Or our teen wonders where the car keys are.

We try to locate our cell phone. Maybe it’s the pen we need to jot down an important note.

Perhaps our toddler misplaces her favorite toy (this makes for a traumatic day). And the needed spice for dinner’s main dish is somewhere in this kitchen.

But not only are we in need of tangible stuff to function in our daily routine. Our souls look for the intangible items that make life full and meaningful.

Here’s 8 things we often look for and what God’s Word says about each.

Looking for Hope?

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalm 62:5

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

(Scripture ESV)

Looking for Peace?

“The Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11b

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3

(Scripture NIV)

Looking for Grace?

“So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.” Ephesians 1:6

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.” Ephesians 2:8

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16

(Scripture NLT)

Looking for Mercy?

“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5

“Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:10

“Who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.” Psalm 103:4

(Scripture ESV)

Looking for Love?

“How precious is your constant love, O God!” Psalm 36:7a

“Yet day by day the Lord also pours out his steadfast love upon me.” Psalm 42:8a

“Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord! How good you are! Your love for us continues on forever.” Psalm 106:1

(Scripture TLB)

Looking for Goodness?

“Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6a

“You have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord.” 1 Peter 2:3b

“I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13

(Scripture AMP)

Looking for Freedom?

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17

(Scripture ESV)

Looking for Eternal Life?

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

(Scripture ESV)

Jesus is the answer.

Hope? Jesus. Peace? Jesus. Grace? Jesus. Mercy? Jesus. Love? Jesus. Goodness? Jesus. Freedom? Jesus. Eternal life? Jesus.

It’s all found in Jesus Christ.
