FGGAM NEWS received this very sad news from the Salvation Army late yesterday afternoon. I encourage us all to give as we see the Red Kettle!

THE SALVATION ARMY HAS RED KETTLE STOLEN IN SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

SANTA FE, N.M. (Dec. 13, 2018) – The Salvation Army this afternoon reported the theft of one of its Red Kettles, containing an unknown amount of cash.

“The important thing is that no one was hurt in the incident, and we are grateful for that,” said Capt. Ned Ortiz, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army Santa Fe Corps Community Center.

This comes at a crucial time of year for the organization. Red Kettle collections comprise approximately 25 percent of donations to The Salvation Army in New Mexico for the entire year, helping The Salvation Army provide a diverse range of social service programs, including food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.

Eighty-two cents of every dollar donated to The Salvation Army are used to support its service programs.

Donations can also be made at SantaFe.SalvationArmy.org or by texting RedKettles to 51555.

The Salvation Army is always in need of volunteers. Volunteering at a Red Kettle for just one hour can raise enough money to help The Salvation Army put food on the table for 13 people.

To volunteer your time, or for more information about The Salvation Army’s services, please visit SantaFe.SalvationArmy.org or call 505-988-8054.

The Salvation Army’s signature Red Kettle was introduced in 1891 as a means to provide a free holiday dinner to the poor.

William Booth (1829-1912), the founder of the Salvation Army, predicted: “The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, heaven without hell.”
