You never fully realize how your life touches others, but God keeps affirming me of my past and present, what a wonderful gift from Almighty God! I talked to Doris Ackerman on Sunday, her hubby, Ted coached the Sidney, Montana High School Basketball team when I started my career as a sports play-by-play announcer on radio at KGCX in Sidney in 1979. Their son Todd was point guard on the team. During this time one of the Ackerman’s daughters was stationed in Africa with the Peace Corps. Doris would tape the games I did on radio and send them to their daughter who so much enjoyed the games her Dad coached and her brother played in! WOW! Thank you for the affirmation Doris!!! Thank you for inviting us into your home while we lived in Sidney! So many great memories of my 41 years in radio, this is one of the best! This also shows how important LOCALIZED RADIO IS!It drives me nuts when I hear of a station cutting out their sports or news departments. Thank you Lord for blessing me with a wonderful life. Sidney was an awesome place to start my first full-time radio job. Before KGCX I worked part-time at the Minnesota News Network in 1978.! Sharon and I hope to visit Sidney in the coming years.
The picture I posted is with me and Craig Price of Sidney, the first Coach I ever interviewed in my radio career! Craig and Anita Price would become such awesome friends of ours! They have stopped here in ABQ a few times on their way back from Arizona where they attend Chicago White Sox Spring Training! I still can’t get over the fact that Craig is a Sox fan!!!! GO TWINS!!!! Craig became my partner in the broadcast booth after awhile, adding his expertise to KGCX Radio.
Thank you for all the sweet words you folks have sent me over the years! Proverbs 16:24 You all in Sidney were so very kind to me and made me part of the community! God picked the perfect town for me to start in! I remember I had two choices, Sidney and a town in northern Wisconsin, I’m thankful God had me go to Sidney!
I love Sidney and I love my hometown of Windom, Minnesota. The Lord has had me go back to Windom the last three years to hold Revival services. Unless the Lord shows me otherwise I will not be back in Windom this year. It has been a miracle to go back to my hometown which I love so very much and preach at the BARC, when it was a school building, I used to be a custodian there back in the 70’s. Windom was where my Christian foundation was built, it is one of the main reasons I am a Preacher, I want every child to have the childhood I had.
Windom was the perfect Town for me to grow up in! PTL!
It is true that time and memories—not money—are our most valuable resources. Spending time with family and friends, creating traditions and memories is what makes life rich.- Scott Walker
