Matthew 6:27-30 (NKJV): “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.  And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Definition of lust (Entry 2 of 2)

intransitive verb

: to have an intense desire or need : crave specifically : to have a sexual urge

This is not the type of love we should have either. Jesus instructed us to be careful of this type of love. This is the type that can cause us to sin.

We read in the Bible of some accounts of what happens when one lusts. An example is found in 2 Samuel 11-12, when David stayed home when other kings were in battle. He saw Bathsheba bathing on her roof. He lusted after her and called for her to be brought to his home. The problem? she was married.

We learn that she was married. David impregnated her and then set on this venture to cover it up. He tried to get her husband drunk and sleep with her and failed. He then planned and collaborated with someone to murder him. After this was accomplished, he brought Bathsheba to his home to make her his wife. this to cover up that he impregnated her prior to killing her husband, Uriah. What David did was not honoring to God and God dealt with his sin.

Instead of being like David and committing sin and then repenting when confronted with it. we are to live righteously. In fact, we are told to live as a living sacrifice;

Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV): I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Let’s continue to do what honors God today.

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.

It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.

Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
