URGENT ACTION NEEDED: HB 51 MOVES TO A SENATE FLOOR VOTE TODAY! SECRETIVE HEARING HELD YESTERDAY.
Secretive Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing Rams Through HB 51, No Public Comment, Pro-Abortion Groups Present, No Pro-Life Individuals
SENATE JUDICIARY VICE CHAIR DANIEL IVEY-SOTO VIOLATES HIS OWN COMMITMENT TO “OPEN MEETINGS, TRANSPARENCY”
In an underhanded, back-door dealing move, the Senate Judiciary Vice Chair, Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto held a secretive meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday afternoon to pass HB 51– without public notice or public input. The move took place in the absence of the Chairman, Sen. Richard Martinez. Senator Ivey Soto had to alert pro-abortion paid activists, however, who packed the room but, not a single voice of opposition was informed– despite hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans who oppose this radical infanticide and abortion up-to-birth bill. The bill was amended and passed on party line vote, 6-4 (read more below). These desperate tactics clearly demonstrate how little public support there is for this bill — other than paid abortion up-to-birth activitsts. We will not be silent, stand with us today: come to the Capitol today, if possible and lobby Democrat Senators, or start contacting them now.

HB 51 AMENDED FOR CONSCIENCE CLAUSE, VOTE ON HOUSE FLOOR FOR CONCURRENCE EXPECTED TOMORROW + PRO-LIFE RALLY!
Since HB 51 was amended, the amended bill must be voted on by the House for concurrence. In what he thought was a concession, during Ivey-Soto’s secretive hearing, he offered an amendment to the current bill to re-instate the conscience clause (NMSA 30-5-2): an amendment he prepared ahead of time. This move contradicts the bill sponsors, Reps. Joanne Ferrary, Georgene Louis and Debbie Armstrong, who rejected offers to amend the bill for conscience protections –while declaring there was “no need,” “nothing changes,” “it keeps the status quo.” It’s clear these legislators are willing to deceive the public, and do whatever is necessary to pass HB 51, despite the wishes of the people of NM. Those who voted for infanticide and abortion up-to-birth are: Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto( D-ABQ), Sen. Peter Wirth, ( D-Santa Fe) Sen. Linda Lopez (D-ABQ), Sen. Mimi Stewart (D-ABQ), Sen. Bill O’Niell (D-ABQ), Sen. Joseph Cervantes (D-Las Cruces). Sen. Gregory Baca (R-Belen, Los Lunas) and Sen. Mark Moores( R-ABQ) blasted the committee for the lack of trasnparency and secrecy, Sen. Ron Griggs (R- Alamogordo) and Sen. William Payne (R-ABQ) also voted against the bill.
