Seeking Wisdom

Solomon, the son of King David was known for his wisdom. In the book of Proverbs, he shares this wisdom with us. James 1:5 tells us: If any of you lack wisdon, let him ask God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Later in chapter 3: 17, he tells us: But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
There are many smart people today with much education and minds full of knowledge…but not knowledge of the Lord necessarily. We are to add to our faith knowledge which will lead to wisdom…a trait Solomon said we should seek as we would seek for silver or a hidden treasure. Proverbs 1 : 7 says: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 2: 6-7 For the Lord gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He layeth up wisdom for the righteous.
Did we read that right? He layeth up wisdom for the righteous? He has it put aside for us as a parent would put aside money for our education… and to receive it, all we have to do is ask. If we were children asking for money that has been put aside for college, would our parents give it to us? Not without a really good reason and much scolding I’m sure. But the wisdom God holds for us is free, and He “upbraideth not.” To upbraid means to scold, reproach or reprove. He gives it to us liberally because He knows we need it in order to succeed in this world full of those who cheat, lie and steal in order to achieve their goals.
Proverbs 3: 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
Proverbs 3: 13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Proverbs 3 : 19-22 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion. 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul..
