Light in the Darkness

Genesis 1:1-3 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

John 1:4-5 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Have you ever noticed how moths are drawn to the lightbulb on your porch? Have you ever been somewhere and someone just walks up to you and spills their whole life story or shares a struggle they’re having? Light attracts us.

John 8:12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

John 12: 46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in Me will no longer remain in the dark.”

God spoke light to the world, sent the Light of the world, then placed that Light in us when we believe on Him. We carry His light.

Ephesians 5:14 For the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

Beloved ones, when we walk into a room, it should light up. People know in their hearts that the light is Him. It’s not visible to the natural eye, nor the unrenewed mind, but the heart knows.

I am reminded of those thermal imaging devices that are used by military, police, and firemen. They are used outside a building to detect differences in temperature to locate insurgents, other individuals and any fire left smoldering. People show as a yellow glow. That’s us!

Remember the little kid song? “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…”?

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”

1 Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.

You know how people were always drawn to Christ Jesus? Now they are drawn to Christ in you.

Psalm 56:13 For You have rescued me from death; You have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in Your presence, O God, in Your life-giving light.

Proverbs 4:18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.

As His dear children, we bring His glorious light and He draws people to Him in us.

I want to encourage you to ask the Father what He wants to say to the people He draws to you. Remember that as His, you represent Him and He will give you the words to say.

“This little light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine…”

Mean is not light, nor is impatience. Let your Light shine all the way to your face. Amen! So be it!
