103rd Flag Day

My Flag

It is not my intention to give another history lesson concerning Flag Day, many others have done very well in reporting these facts, however I will say a little of the history, then speak my heart on the matter.

Flag Day has never become an official federal holiday, but in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially set June 14, as Flag Day.  Officially, on the federal level, however, the holiday deemed Flag Day was never passed by Congress. Nonetheless, many cities, towns and communities embrace celebrations and parades to honor the American Flag we nicknamed, the “Stars and Stripes,” and perhaps even more legendary, “Old Glory.” And, we must not forgetGrand Old Flag” from the 1948 song by George M. Cohan, Jr.

I remember the last design change very well. I had just finished the 7th grade, and leading up to the changing of the Flag, we had studied in Current Events about the adding of Alaska and Hawaii as the 49th and 50th states respectively.   I believe Hawaii officially became the 50th state in 1959 and the Flag design adopted on July 4th, 1960.

I feel that the Flag colors and design was somehow divinely inspired (I don’t want to press that thought too far; it is just a personal feeling).   I say that because of the deep feelings that swell up in hearts of genuine patriots of this land when the Flag is displayed near and far away. She is a “Grand Old Flag” after all.

The real reason this nation and this Flag have stood the test of time to this point, is because this nations true Banner from her beginning has been Jesus Christ our LORD. He has been our strength, power, and glory throughout the world.   It is time that the genuine patriots raise His Banner once again. Come on, Church, we can do this. Make a Difference – Be a Hero — Call upon the LORD. Pray On!
