We are super blessed this morning by this post from Sister Connie Keyohara! God Bless you and yours Connie!
Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.
Motherhood is a great reward. There are so many wonderful things that come with being a mom. But there are tough times that come along as well. Sometimes when your child is ill, going through a tough time, or just in teenage years. It can take a toll on us.
One of the greatest treasures that I’ve had is praying for my children. It started before they were born and continues to this very day. Sometimes the prayer was done out of an anxious heart and sometimes my prayer was done out of a broken heart then there were the times that it was just done straight out of love for my children.
Either way I believe a mom’s prayers are very important and necessary. So what happens when you feel like your prayers are going unanswered? When you feel like giving up?
Let’s go to Deuteronomy 6 from the Message: Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9
You see, our kids are under constant attack from the world and from Satan and his evil plots. We want to pray for them as often as we can. Aside from God, we love our children more than anybody else. Your Interaction with your child gives you insight to their needs, their hurts, their hearts, their joys, and their future. And these are all things that as moms we can start praying for before they even enter this world.
What happens when your child is walking a prodigal lifestyle? When they’ve walked away from the faith? The Bible is serious and firm in its teaching against sin and rebellion. We choose this day blessings or curses. If they continue living the way they are and continue to reject Christ, they are choosing covenant curses. And this is where our prayers come in handy! We’re basically fighting for our children’s lives.
I can pray for my children for hours a day, although it’s not consecutive hours it’s still productive. I know it’s productive because I can see it in their lives. Not to say that when you pray for your children everything is perfect, far from it, but at least we’re on the right track. And never, ever underestimate the power of a praying mom interceding on behalf of her child!
I endlessly ask the Lord to extend His redeeming grace to my children. While their deliverance ultimately depends on God’s sovereign mercy, the prayers of a godly parent often play an important role in that. I’m positively sure of that.
So I’d like to encourage you as you pray for your children whether they’re at the place that you want them to be or making their way there, be patient and trust in God.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
Many Blessings,
